Are you like me where it’s been a lifelong thing for you?
It’s no secret that I talk with everyone like we’ve known each other since we were 5 years old, some consider that a weakness, but my friends say it’s my Superpower
Last week I had that second guess me thing happen again
I was asked to take a few of my metal sculptures to a conference for medical professionals, the conference topic was suicide awareness
It was held at a well known college, it’s actually the 3rd largest school here in the state
My sculptures were to be used as conversation pieces in between sessions
One I took was the word HOPE
Its meaning is this:
We can take what was once discarded and thought of as useless and turn it into something beautiful. We can do that with our own lives too, people that are down, or feel broken, can rebuild themselves with HOPE in their lives again…..
They have an art galley there at the school, it’s a nice one
I went to the info desk and without telling anyone I was part of the event going on asked about how to get my art shown in the gallery
Long story short, the folks at the info desk told me it was incredibly hard and you simply cant just walk up and sign up to get in.. Ohhh, Okay..
That wasn’t what I was trying to do, I just wanted the info
It wasn’t that they were so overly proud of what was there, but who was I to think that I could ask about entering some of my work
At first I wanted to simply walk away, and I started too, but stopped myself, then shared with them some of my known works, and how the news recently put me on tv to showcase what I create.. Then I told them about the piece you guys already know about, the one where the executive from Hallmark bought it at a local charity auction
Their tones changed fast after that, real fast
And what they don’t know, but I’m sure they will, is that after seeing my work the director of ( yes I said “The” not just “A” ) but the director of programs asked if I would come teach a class on creating sculptures at their school
How’s all of that for a middle aged dude that’s self taught out in his driveway? 😁
There’s this show called “Ted Lasso” I’m sure you’ve heard of it
This one scene stopped me in my tracks, but then I smiled…….
It shows what I, and others like me, have gone through at times
