Hi friend, how are you?

What books are on your bedstand? The autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is one that’s on mine
Ole Ben did so much more than start a spark by sending a key up a kite string
He did a lot, and create lots of sayings about all of it

One of his was “Write on napkins when drinking wine, but edit it on paper while drinking water”
Well right now I’m not drinking but what I have going on is pretty raw
A buddy of mine just died very unexpectedly, I told you guys about 2 months ago how I ran into him that day while out riding my bike. Two months ago I told you my old friend looked great, and he did
Today I’ve talked with several people that I haven’t had contact with in years
My buddy and I were cops together, and most of those that I spoke with today were also

One buddy I spoke with today I haven’t talked with in a long time
He brought up that I don’t come around anymore and haven’t in a while
He’s right, I haven’t, not in that arena

Over the years there have been other deaths, not just officers, but civilians working for the courts, people in court services, pre trial services, all connected in the system.
When I first left the dept I went to a funeral or a wedding here or there, but then things changed for me, or maybe I changed
We as people do that, we may not forget but we move on from our past when we start new lives

This one hits different, we were good buddies, it may of been a while ago, but it was still legit. And when I ran into him 2 months ago it was like we hadn’t missed a beat

I don’t have to think about this, this is a funeral that I won’t miss
It’s kind of surreal right now, kind of like “is this really happening?”

At the moment it may seem that I’m writing on napkins while drinking wine
But the fact is that I’m ready to edit on paper while drinking water
That’ll happen by coming out of my cave, and going to see some old friends, even though we all wish it was under different circumstances, I hope that we all embrace each other just the same

Life is short, time is precious, go check on your people

Invest wisely, live charitably and be well
Brother Bill
