Summer 2025 Summer Survival Kit
Summer 2025
How’s your summer going so far? Feeling the the heat yet? If not you will be soon
According to NOAA ( National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ) it’s going to be scorcher…..
The “Heat Dome” that plagued us in 2024 is expected to be increased
Here’s a short list of things that you can do to help keep you and yours cool
1: Your homes a/c
If you haven’t had it serviced in the last 3 years you should
A licensed tech can clean it professionally but DIY can help a lot
Never let debris build up around the outside of your a/c
Use a leaf blower to blow debris off and away from it
It sits out in the rain so this is okay, take a garden hose and wash it off
Don’t simply spray from the top down, but from the sides also, don’t be surprised if you see gunk run down out of it when you do
Change the air filter, if you can afford it get one that’s anti allergen
When was the last time you had your air ducts cleaned out?
2: Block the sun where you can during hot times of the day, use the shades, they make heavy duty ones for homes hit by direct sun
Ceiling Fans::: THIS IS IMPORTANT No one does this and I don’t know why!! lol
On the side of your ceiling fan there’s a switch, it goes up and down
MAKE SURE it’s set so that in the summer the fan turns clockwise
The air should feel like it’s being pushed down
Have a fan in rooms with bad circulation, you can leave it on low, just move the air
3: My grandma taught me this and I just thought she was “old” well now I know….
Run the stove and clothes dryer at night, that or early morning
I cook outside a lot to start with, but in the summer it’s daily
Change light bulbs to LED bulbs, they put out less heat in the home
4: Your car…. The #1 thing you can do is keep it maintained, oil changes, tune ups
Make sure the tire pressure is right, if your cars tires hold 35 PSI and one of them is only at 29 it will make a big difference and put a drag on your car
When sitting at long red lights put the car in neutral, you’ll not only allow the engine to cool down slightly but you’ll use 15% less gas during that time
WAIT UNTIL AFTER YOUR CAR IS STARTED TO TURN ON THE A/C
That keeps from putting unnecessary pressure on the compressor
5: This is old skoooooooooooooool,,,,,,,
On really super hot days, when I was a kid people would spray the west side of their homes with garden hoses, their roofs too
Have other home cooling tips? I’d love to hear them
Invest wisely, live charitably and be well
