Hi friend, how are you?
When you go to see your Dr what type of patient are you?
Do you take every single thing that they say as 110% gospel because they are a Dr?
If you do you’re not alone, I know many people that do
I don’t…. If I say “X” hurts here and it’s linked to “X” there, it is
What I will need the Dr for is a order for x-rays and muscle relaxers possibly
I am not saying to dismiss or ignore your doctors advice, I’m saying to know your own body
Labor Day weekend I did a lot, well over did it is more like it
It wasn’t all on the paddling across the lake and back, or the big giant hilly hikes that got me, no it was when I put on those ankle weights that weighed 5lbs each and decided to not only do a gazillion step ups / pendulum leg swings / but hike up some more hills, while wearing them…. It was all fun and games until a few days later when my back was as tight as a could be… Then my toes went numb, Houston, we have a problem…..
So with that new nuance, to the Dr I went… Did I pinch a nerve? Maybe
X-rays showed my back arthritis has increased since a few years ago, that’s normal, I’m 61. But the toes? Most likely spinal stenosis
Well the Dr, who I believe did 100% of what she could and had my best interest at heart, had other ideas. She was not convinced that it’s related ( back to toes ) she said I would have to have horrible sciatica first, the nerve would have to travel
No, it doesn’t, that is incorrect. Even “The Google” will tell you that one
Her theory is plausible, it sounds good on paper, but in real world application that is not entirely how the human body works
Again, she was doing what I believe she thought was best, even if it wasn’t correct
Her idea was blood work, vitamin deficiency, I almost laughed, didn’t, but wanted too
Not just laying around waiting on the physical therapy appointment, I started doing my own. Back to fighting shape I’m not yet, but better, yes I am. I’ve had to adjust my workouts for now. Not much load bearing type of stuff, added doing lots / lots / lotzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz of soft easy controlled stretching, multiple times a day. And it’s working
Oh and the heating pad was my BFF these past few weeks too, I plan to invest in a much bigger and better one “Professional Grade” 😁 😁 😁
My back is still a little stiff but no longer sore, and the numbness in my toes is starting to go away
You know your body better than anyone else, when your hurt no one can tell you your level of pain the way you experience it. One of the best ways to avoid getting hurt is to stay strong. That includes your core….. What I did Labor Day weekend shouldn’t of done me in like this. I was slacking off with core work, paying the price now
Today’s Monday, you know what we say around here
“Never miss a Monday workout”
Invest wisely, live charitably and be well
