Hi friend, how are you?
What are your big plans for this 4th of July weekend?
Mine aren’t as related to the 4th itself as they are doing something for me that I want
And with that I expect to “free” some stuff up
Last night I read a article by a man that retired 2 years ago
He said the last 3 summers he goes away camping out in the woods for one week
Alone, without his wife or family, he does it for him ( I’m thinking she doesn’t want to be outside in the tent!!!! lol….. 🤣 )
He must be in good health, he takes a ax and cuts his own firewood
At retirement age that’s impressive
Something else he says he does is unplug
And when he does return to civilization again, he’s a new man
For him, that is freedom
Some thing else I read recently was about gratitude, and if you’re pain free to give thanks for that, as that is the biggest “flex” one can have
Forget about your cholesterol numbers as an achievement, or as pharmacists call it “The Great Cholesterol Myth” They call it that bc of the insane amount of pills sold each year
Are you pain free? How far can you walk ?
How long can you dead hang from a bar?
How many flights of stairs can you climb?
Remember “The Floor Test?” How fast can you do that?
That’s a serious factor as we age, being able to get yourself up off the floor in case you fall, laying straight on your back, totally unassisted and not using anything but your bare hands
Anything over 15 seconds is not good, not at any age
So are you pain free? That is freedom
We aren’t talking about gratitude here, we should all be thankful every day for all that we have
We are talking about freedom, and the greatest freedom of all is our physical strength and health
Freedom comes in many forms
Financial / Physical ( no one wants to live in a place that is oppressed ) / Spiritual / Mental ( ever get something off of your shoulders and you feel 800 lbs lighter? ) The list goes on
For me right now at the age of 61 and being pain free is the biggest freedom I have
After being “tore up from the floor up” through most of my 40s and 50’s this era of my life feels like the biggest freedom I could ever have
The long holiday weekend is here
Enjoy it with family and friends
Get outside and go see the boom booms
And remember that freedom, of any kind, isn’t free
Invest wisely, live charitably and be well
